Tuberbulb Export acquires part of Royal van Zanten's trading activities
Hillegom, 2 november 2025 – Tuberbulb Export B.V. (part of the CSW Group in Hillegom) will take over the summer bulb business of Van Zanten Flowerbulbs from crop 2026 onwards. This acquisition not only contributes to the further growth in volume of Tuberbulb Export, it also strengthens the specialised knowledge in the field of tulips, including tulip forcing. The expertise of both companies and the extensive range of products create opportunities to increase developments for customers.
This acquisition will ensure that the valuable knowledge and experience that has been built up by Van Zanten Flowerbulbs over the past 164 years, will be preserved and accessible to the market and future generations. For example, the experienced team will also join the new company, which is located in the same town.
The integration of the trading activities enables Tuberbulb to operate even more efficiently and achieve further growth. This step seamlessly fits in with Tuberbulb's strategy; maintain the leading position in global flower bulb export with a strong focus on Asia.
‘The best of two worlds’
Founded in 1990, Tuberbulb Export is a global supplier of top-quality flower bulbs and perennials. The main export markets are Japan, China, South Korea, the United States and Canada, with a customer base consisting of wholesale, retail and companies active in the construction of parks and public green spaces. With the takeover of the trade and this experienced team of people, Tuberbulb increases its knowledge of treatments and tulip forcing.
John Boot, DGA Tuberbulb Export: "After a period of intensive and constructive discussions, I am pleased that the acquisition has now been successfully completed. I am confident that by joining forces and expertise, we will be able to serve our customers even better in the future. ‘The best of two worlds’!"
Summer bulb business of Van Zanten Flowerbulbs in good hands
With the acquisition of summer bulb business, Van Zanten is saying goodbye to the last business unit of Royal Van Zanten's flower bulb company. Earlier this year, the lily breeding was sold to Hobaho in Lisse and recently the lily trade and nursery in New Zealand were transferred to Onings Holland Flowerbulbs in Poeldijk.
"We are very happy that we got in contact with John Boot and have come to such a great result. Tuberbulb is a wonderful company with growth potential and ambitious plans. We are confident that the colleagues who will transfer there will enjoy a good workplace with a similar company culture." says Klaas Jan Vijn, Managing Director of Van Zanten Flowerbulbs.
Transition
The coming period will see colleagues from both companies working together to ensure a smooth integration - safeguarding the good relationship with growers, customers and other relations. In addition, time and energy will be invested in the merger of both teams.
On 31 May 2026, Van Zanten Flowerbulbs, one of the oldest flower bulb companies in the Netherlands, will close its doors in Hillegom for good.
